Title: Moderating Guidelines
Post by: admin on March 28, 2009, 12:30:08 am
What is the job of a moderator?

As a moderator, your job is to browse around your particular board and make sure everything is within the guidelines of our forum policy.

Make sure you read through the policy and understand it. If you notice something on your board that seems strange or doesn't follow the policy, you will have the ability to delete that post. Also, it is your job to let the Administrators know if you notice anything suspicious.

What are we looking for in a moderator?

1. You don't have to be a long time member to be a moderator, but we'd like to have seen you around here enough to know that you are "active" and post often.

***What I mean by active is simply someone who logs on, browses the boards and posts at least once every two weeks. This doesn't mean just because you've made 100 posts a day you can automatically be a moderator. We like the posts to have substance and really contribute to the forum***

2. If you're a moderator, we want to see you on the forum and posting as I said. If are going on vacation or need a break for a while that's cool but let us know so we don't think you've abandoned ship.

3. Don't take advantage of your position; your job is to only delete things that do not follow our policy. If you disagree with what someone said or do not like a certain post, do not delete it. Keep your personal preferences to yourself, unless it is harming another member or hurting somebody's feelings. If you are unsure about anything, check with an Administrator.

4. If you are chosen as a moderator it is not only your job to moderate posts and boards, but you also should be someone who starts threads and encourages others to be active in the forum.

4. Moving on to something that has been an issue lately; inactive moderators. If we notice that a moderator has been away from the site for extended amount of time (meaning over 2 months) or hasn't posted in an extended amount of time without letting us know they'd be gone, I will send out a notice. This will basically say that if you'd like to continue with your moderating position, you will need to visit the forum more. If not, someone will be allowed to replace you. It is not fair to those members who want to be moderators when spots are taken up by people who no longer contribute to the forum. If you ever don't feel like being a moderator any more that's fine, just please let us know.

5. Also if at any time you abuse your privileges of being a moderator by deleting multiple posts for no reason or are inappropriate or rude in posts or messages to other members, you will be removed as a moderator and other consequences may be taken depending on your actions.

6. Remember, not everyone will be automatically accepted to be a moderator. If an Administrator says they need more time to decide or would like you to do something more, please do not take it personally. Usually if more time is given and you do what we ask you, you will be accepted. Whining, complaining, and disrespect will most definitely not work, and most likely we will not consider you to be one at all after that.

Thank you for your interest in helping us out! :D
